Meeting summary from 4 August, 2023

The North Saddle Creek Business Improvement District (BID) held a meeting on August 4, 2023, at the Homy Inn. The attendees included Sue Finkle, Joshwa Hannum, April Jackson, Molly Kliment-Jenkins, Eric Janosek and Steve Pham.

The main topic of discussion was security issues, particularly concerning the homeless population becoming aggressive and unfriendly. Several measures were proposed to address these concerns:

  1. Immediate strategies:
    1. Reaching out to the Omaha Police Business Watch at 402-444-6518
    2. Deal with security threats, such as squatters, by physically removing them from the property by calling the police or, down the road, security personnel.
    3. Request banning and barring problematic individuals from the property by providing necessary paperwork to the police in their presence. A sample of such paperwork is available through the OPD: https://police.cityofomaha.org/services/business-services/ban-and-bar
  2. Long-term strategies:
    1. Improving lighting around individual businesses to enhance security
    2. Hiring off-duty police officers for additional security detail

The meeting aimed to address immediate security concerns and explore long-term solutions to create a safer environment for businesses and the community.
