The
North Saddle Creek Business Improvement District (BID) held a meeting
on August 4, 2023, at the Homy Inn. The attendees included Sue Finkle,
Joshwa Hannum, April Jackson, Molly Kliment-Jenkins, Eric Janosek and Steve Pham.
The main topic of discussion was security issues, particularly concerning the homeless population becoming aggressive and unfriendly. Several measures were proposed to address these concerns:
- Immediate strategies:
- Reaching out to the Omaha Police Business Watch at 402-444-6518
- Deal with security threats, such as squatters, by physically removing them from the property by calling the police or, down the road, security personnel.
- Request banning and barring problematic individuals from the property by providing necessary paperwork to the police in their presence. A sample of such paperwork is available through the OPD: https://police.cityofomaha.org/services/business-services/ban-and-bar
- Long-term strategies:
- Improving lighting around individual businesses to enhance security
- Hiring off-duty police officers for additional security detail
The meeting aimed to address immediate security concerns and explore long-term solutions to create a safer environment for businesses and the community.
